Shell

Shell

Year
2001
Materials
Wire, plaster, salt, light bulb and cord

Clucas made a shell-like body structure and placed it on a pile of salt, illuminating the inside with a single bulb suspended from the ceiling. It was the focal point of a meditative space she created. The idea behind the shell installation was of God being able to see us on the inside — all our motivations and thoughts, not just what we show to the world. The salt and light were used for their symbolism in Christianity.
